This week I am creating a custom queen sized solid Hickory platform bed for an amazing couple here in Austin. The pic above is the rough cutout pieces for the headboard and the footboard. It is all made from skip planed 6/4" solid hickory. Today I finished the wood work portion of the bed. I used a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a flap disc to finish carving out the headboard shape. The slats are 1x4 Poplar with a double 1x4 Hickory drop beam in the center for support. I will stain and finish tomorrow. Come back for a completed pic. Finished the platform bed today. Took right at 3 days. The headboard is made from random width rough sawn 6/4" Hickory and has custom iron and square nail detail work on the sides. This one was fun!
